Everyone gets in.

This site is built to work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, or zoom. If any part of it doesn't work for you, I want to know.

Why this matters to me

I use a wheelchair, and I've spent my life finding out which places were built with me in mind and which weren't. The web is no different. A website that shuts people out is a locked door, and nobody should have to call ahead to find out whether they can get in.

So accessibility isn't an add-on here. It's how I build every site, for every client, from the first line of code.

The standard

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. That's the widely accepted standard for making websites usable by people with disabilities, and it's the minimum I build to.

In practice, that means:

  • Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline so you can see where you are.
  • A "skip to main content" link lets keyboard and screen reader users jump past the menu.
  • Pages use proper headings and landmarks, so screen readers can navigate them.
  • Text and background colors meet contrast requirements.
  • Images that carry meaning have text descriptions. Decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
  • Form fields have clear labels, and required fields are marked.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off its animations.
  • Text can be zoomed to 200% without breaking the layout.

If something doesn't work

No site is perfect, and I'd rather hear about a problem than have you quietly leave. If you run into anything that's hard to use, call me at (352) 631-7775 or send a note through the contact page. Tell me the page and what happened, and I'll fix it. If you need information from this site in a different format, just ask.
